Group W is Now Part of the SPA family Group W was acquired by Systems Planning & Analysis (SPA) in September 2025. Group W is a premier data science and defense analytics company with a core focus on providing modeling and simulation and wargaming capabilities to the DoD. Our multidisciplinary team—comprising operations researchers, wargame designers, software developers, analysts, data scientists, and military experts—transforms complex challenges into actionable solutions. Group W has offices with meeting and training space in Vienna, Virginia, and a campus in Dumfries, Virginia, serving MCB Quantico and providing a secret-level wargaming facility. 

What We Do 

MODEL AND TOOL DEVELOPMENT - Design innovative, computer-assisted wargaming and modeling methods to rigorously explore decision-making and outcomes in complex conflict scenarios. OPERATIONS RESEARCH - Conduct rigorous, data-driven analysis that integrates evolving methods, models, and expert judgment to solve complex defense challenges, optimize force design, and enhance mission effectiveness. CAMPAIGN ANALYSIS - Simulate large-scale, multi-domain operations over time to evaluate outcomes, uncover key insights, refine force design and operational plans, and understand logistical challenges. ENGAGEMENT- AND MISSION-LEVEL MODELING - Develop physics-based and engineering representations of system interactions to evaluate outcomes and optimize tactics, operating strategies, and processes. WARGAMING - Conduct structured wargames that blend human decision-making with real-world data, leveraging subject matter expert and warfighter input, objective scenario design, and detailed tracking of player actions and intent.
